I'm leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again...

...well I do have a rough idea, about two years.

The past couple of weeks have been hectic, something that in all honesty I didn't expect. You always tend to find that there's something you've forgotten to do (like a couple of university assignments), people you need to see (for injections and health checks), and parties you need to organise - which were amazing and a big thank you to everyone who came.

So the bag is now packed, not too heavy and I've embarrassingly (quickly and badly) edited a video of what's in my backpack too so that should get a few laughs at my attempt to video myself - something I know I'll have to get used to in order to keep the blog up to date and interesting.

It still all feels quite strange still, and really only sank in when my hairdresser gave me a leaving card yesterday and I thought, "bloody hell, I'm actually doing this!". I couldn't sleep at all last night, a mixture of excitement and sense checking that I have transfered all the bills over to Kate who's bought my house (and my cats too).

Speaking of cats, I'm curious as to how long it will take Chief (one of the cats) to get used to me not being here. I say this as when I used to work away and family and friends looked after the boys, Chief would stay out and not come home until I got back. For his sake I hope is belly tells him that a couple of years is a bit of a wait! Tigger on the other hand couldn't care less as it's all food food food for him, be it Whiskas, Chinese, Curry, or a Pizza - a true Garfield of the house.

So the plan today is that one of my best friends, Lee Fisher, is taking to me Wakefield train station at 1200 for the trip down to Heathrow where I'll get my 7pm flight to Tokyo (Narita Airport) - flight number is Virgin 7802.

Right, time for some more last minute checks and a brew before the internet gets cut off. I'll upload the video of the backpack shortly.

See you in Japan!
Dave.

Is there a bottle of hair bleach in your bag?
